The simple answer, of course, is yes, you should definitely match skirting boards and architraves with your interior design skirting boards. However, that is not to suggest that you do not have other styles which complement, and in fact, you do not necessarily have to have skirting boards and architraves that exactly match only in terms of form, design, and style.

You should be able to mix and match styles to give your interior design a unique feel. For example, you might choose a modern skirting board that has clean-cut lines, a sharp geometric design, a lovely glass finish, or any number of other designs. Likewise, you could choose a rustic molding with touches of floral prints, a wooden molding with a wooden finish, and so on.

When choosing your moldings, remember to keep two things in mind. Firstly, ensure that the molding is in the same color as the rest of the wall, and secondly, ensure that the color of the moldings does not stand out and cause accentuation against the walls.

As an example, if you choose light-colored tiles for the walls, you should not buy dark-colored skirting boards and architraves because they will be an eyesore. Instead, opt for light blue, perhaps with some white accents. The same principle applies when selecting a color for the trim on the wall. If you want the trim to blend with the wall, go for a color that is slightly darker.
